The short answer
Shortlist ChatGPT and Claude for a general writing workflow, and include Gemini if Google’s app ecosystem is central to your work. Choose using your own brief and editing time. We do not have evidence for a universal winner on writing quality.

How do you compare writing quality?
Use a real brief with an audience, purpose, word limit and two examples of your existing writing. Supply the same verified facts to each tool. Ask for a first draft, then give the same revision request. Count factual corrections, sentences you rewrite and minutes to reach a publishable version. Keep the best output anonymous while you compare it.
What makes a useful writing brief?
Specify the reader’s question, the answer they need, the evidence you can support and the action they should take. Ask the assistant to flag missing facts instead of inventing them. For product articles, supply current source links and distinguish your own experience from the provider’s claims.
Should you pay for AI writing?
Try the task on an available free tier first. Upgrade when limits, file handling or collaboration requirements prevent you completing work, rather than because a subscription promises better prose. Compare the cost of a month with the editing time you actually save.
Common questions
Will AI-written content automatically rank in search?
No. A fluent draft still needs a useful answer, accurate facts, distinctive evidence and appropriate editorial review. Publishing more text does not establish expertise.
